Incoming arc, continued
More about the incoming square: With the outgoing square, the person lives his life assuming that he is not capable of dealing with the circumstances, even though he is called to do so. The incoming square has the opposite effect: here the person does identify with his circumstances, while actually needing to let go of them. Yet he has projected himself so much in them, that he believes he should manifest himself in them. However, this is not recognized or acknowledged by his environment: The action is actually an egocentric projection and is therefore uncalled-for. Because of his huge efforts, this will bring equally huge disappointments in its wake. The incoming square affects the person in a forceful manner. There is inner struggle and suffering.
In the incoming sextile, the inner balance is regained. The difference between a lasting and a temporal identity is now realized and acknowledged. One’s consciousness has awakened, while the arc still has sufficient tension to be able to express itself in its environment.
At this point on the aspects’ arc, the instinctual and natural functions in this Lunar process (6.2, 25.1) have performed their task. The incoming sextile is therefore sometimes called the most human of all aspects.
The possibility to contribute to the environment in a practical manner, comes to an end in the incoming conjunction. Between the force and the resistance, there is no arc of tension, no potential for Self-expression any longer. As soon as the force wants to exert pressure, it loses out. The dwindling force is inversely proportional to the increasing resistance.
The incoming conjunction – action through non-action
If the person is able to release all attachment to practical results, the incoming conjunction is considered by some to be the strongest aspect of the whole sequence. It is said that the incoming conjunction contains the perfect action, free of any Self-interest, in line with the greater intention that is present in the Cosmos. This is where Venus rules.
Another popular phrase referring to the incoming conjunction is: ‘You either lose yourself in it or you drown in it.’ In any case, in the incoming conjunction, the Lunar projection has exhausted itself and has become inoperative. Therefore this aspect can directly affect matter. As such, it has an absolute and imperative character. In a personal sense, this is experienced as loss and suffering.
Turnaround aspects
This entire explanation of the aspects’ sequence is given in the light of our Self-development. Although it holds true for any of the aspects that are projected from the Center onto the circumference, that is, for all aspects discussed so far, the Self emerges in its most authentic form in the conjunctions and oppositions:
a. In the outgoing and incoming conjunctions, the environment merely serves as an object outside of the person, since the Self is not yet involved, or not involved any longer, in its relationship with the circumference.
b. By contrast, the oppositions represent the most creative, interactive relationship between the Self and its environment.
These four moments on the aspects’ arc play a special role in our Self-development.They form the anchor points for our Self-awareness: the outgoing and incoming oppositions as hinge points for a turnaround, and the incoming conjunction as an incentive for the dissolution of the Self. This brings at last objectivation. For the rest, the processes in both types of aspects are closely connected.
Other aspects
The other aspects mentioned above have a more preparing or completing function. They represent facets of our Self-development. They do take part in the turnaround, but do not function as an anchor point for it.
